Co-curated with Barbara Garrie

Ilam Campus Gallery, Christchurch, 28 March – 13 April 2012

The graduate exhibition of work by students from the Master of Fine Arts programme at the University of Canterbury has been an annual show for some time, celebrating the collective efforts and achievements of the year's graduating students. By bringing together a group of artists in a way that speaks meaningfully about their work, but that doesn't force tenuously-existing connections, the curator is faced with a number of challenges. In focusing on a given group of artists who have studied at the same institution over the same period of time, these exhibitions often showcase a disparate range of concerns and approaches within the artists' own professional practices.

For this exhibition, Barbara Garrie and Chloe Geoghegan took an innovative approach to engaging with these curatorial difficulties. Masterplan was intended as a provocation; a gesture intended to stimulate discussion about curatorial practice within the tertiary context.
